It is said that in Italy the first climbs on the ice falls date from 1979-1980. It is true, but there is a curious exception: data on hand, the first ascent of an icefall dates back to 18 December 1977. Where? In Varaita Valley. Who? Romeo Isaia and Pietro Marchisio. The name of the icefall? Ciucchinel, which mispronounces the name of the great French ice climber Walter Cecchinel. Set in a gorge to the north, the climb has three jumps of 25, 50 (up to 85°) and 40 m respectively. In the same area: Gnoma Piangente (Weeping Gnome) and Falce di Luna (Crescent Moon).
