Valle Varaita
An authentic and wild alpine valley rich in natural heritage and traditions
Scopri la Val Varaita
The Varaita Valley stretches for about 70 kilometres going up from Costigliole to Colle dell‘Agnello, where a panoramic road that culminates at the 2744 m of the pass joins it to the French valley of Queyras. The presence of the Monviso massif is a constant for the valley, which is
characterised by a variety of extraordinary landscapes that alternate from the gentle and fertile slopes of the initial stretch to the alpine landscapes, with its green pastures and steep grasslands, vast deciduous forests and pine woods of larch and stone pine. The so-called emerald valley has
always been resplendent in the thousands of shades of green of its lush vegetation.
Let the beauty of the Varaita Valley enthuse you!
Inside the Capuchin Church, you will find the Museum of Costume and Textile Craftsmanship,
which was inaugurated in 2008, where you can discover women’s culture and female costumes that, especially in the upper Varaita Valley, were a strong indicator of the social status for them. You can visit the Romanesque-Gothic style of the Parish Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Sampeyre, which includes neo-Gothic decorations and frescoes by the Biazaci painters from Busca linked to stories from the life of Jesus.
