It is the classic ring around the historic centre, a healthy walk which everyone can do amid the city’s sights.
Starting from Porta Santa Maria, opposite the cathedral, you plunge into the medieval “dark arcades” of via Volta, until you reach the picturesque piazzetta dei Mondagli, one of the most delightful places in the historic centre. From here, you climb gradually up steps and cobbled streets, to the Castile. You descend along the noble and scenic Salita al Castello, with the Drancia fountain, the Palazzo of the liberal arts, the ancient town hall and the civic tower.
Turning into the first alley on the left, the route takes you along the street running down the side of the church of San Giovanni, the Casa Cavassa museum finally reaching the church of San Bernardo.
